While the Plateau has no shortage of cafes, the area right around Mont-Royal Station lacks a quality coffee spot to sit down and enjoy a cappuccino and a viennoiserie, and Cafe Noir right on the corner of Rivard and Mont-Royal looks like it's shut up its doors for good.
Enter Le Toledo, the new cafe-bakery that opened last week on Mont-Royal at the corner of Drolet.
The bright, colourful space is sure to become a new favourite in the area, and I stopped by on Sunday to take it all in.

TL;DR This all-new bakery and cafe just opened on Mont-Royal, only a two-minute walk from the Mont-Royal metro station. All of their bread and baked goods are made in-house and the place smells absolutely divine. Check out pictures of my visit below.
The first thing you'll notice upon entering Le Toledo is the beautiful bakery kitchen, followed swiftly by the impressive spread of bread and baked goods.
You're invited to try some of their bread upon entering the open and inviting space.
There's also a cute little kids-area for families passing through.
The main seating area is a kitchen-style shared table that requests no laptops between 11 AM and 3 PM to save the space for guests enjoying their sandwiches and warm drinks.
Not a problem for laptop users, though (they are called LAP tops, after all) as there is plenty of space all around the big windows, with cute cushions so you can lean back and type or sip away.
There are also comfortable and stylish couches and chairs near the back of the space for more intimate seating arrangements.
In addition to well-priced espresso beverages, they also offer sandwiches on beautiful baguettes and toasts that are as colourful as they are delicious.
You likely also noticed the muffins and other treats pictured above. The bowls in the picture above are filled with the homemade jams and marmalades.
I ordered a cappuccino that was perfectly foamed, with a chocolatine that was flaky and delicious with a nice, rich chocolate inside.
Their coffees are also all served with a nutty little sugar cookie that I almost liked more than the chocolatine!
They've also got kombucha and iced tea on tap, so clearly they're ready for the warmer months.
The smell of butter, the whoosh of milk being steamed, the shout of "chocolatines chaudes!" from the kitchen, everything about Le Toledo makes my inner cafe-lover smile.
The next time you're passing by Mont-Royal station, be sure to stop in and take in the sights and smells of the Plateau's newest cafe-bakery.
