This Enchanting Two-Storey Yurt Experience In Canada Is The Perfect Winter Escape For The Holidays

Although the holidays are a time when most of us are joyful and in the festive spirit, there are a lot of things that can seriously get you down. Think about it: snowstorms, slushy city conditions, ice, uncomfortably warm weather that leads to melted snow, the bitter cold, the list can go on forever.

TL;DR The Buffalo Farm offers multiple accomodations including a two-storey yurt that's the first of its kind in the country. Excursions include visiting provincial parks, meeting with buffalos and horses, and more. Dogs as well as large groups are welcomed. More details below.

Needless to say, we could probably use some sort of pick-me-up right about now. Something to take away the winter blues and offer a getaway for anyone fed up with the season.

Well, look no further. If you're in desperate need of a relaxing (or adventurous) escape from reality, the Buffalo Farm is a must-visit destination.

The Buffalo Farm is a 6-hour drive outside of Montreal (located in Ontario), but what kind of getaway would it be if you didn't have to do a bit of travelling?

The farm offers overnight accomodations on Airbnb. You can choose from a tipi (probably a more appropriate choice in the summer), a cozy one-storey yurt, or a two-storey yurt that's the only one of its kind in Canada.

From personal experience while staying at the Buffalo Farm in the past, winter is definitely the most magical time to visit. Discover animal tracks in the morning in the newly fallen snow, and at night you can stay warm by the wood-burning stove and sit by candlelight.

For some, just being at the yurt will make you never want to step outside again. For others, you might be the more outdoorsy type. Well, in this case, there are quite a few excursions that would make this holiday getaway perfect.

Not only is there the gorgeous Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park less than 10 minutes away, perfect for winter snowshoeing and hiking, but there are also quite a few activities you can participate in without even leaving the Buffalo Farm property.

You have the opportunity to reserve a guided meet and greet with the farms' buffalos, a major attraction among anyone who stays on the property. Standing only feet away from these giant creatures will seriously make you forget about the outside world.

You also have the option of meeting the rescued horses that live on the farm, an extremely memorable experience.

As if things couldn't get any better, your furry four-legged companions are also welcome at all of the accomodations.

You can even reserve a getaway for groups of up to 12 people, meaning this could be your opportunity to get all of your friends together for the ultimate winter adventure. The possibilities are endless!

There are still a ton of things to do this Monday holiday!
  • Here's a short list of what's open and what's closed on Labour Day in Montreal.
  • If you're heading out, make sure to call ahead to your destination to inquire about reduced hours.

Yes, it's a long weekend! Three uninterrupted days to relax, have fun, and not think for two seconds about things like school or work, or other responsibilities until Tuesday morning. Not to be too depressing but it will be six weeks before we get another official long weekend.

But let's focus on the positive! This is usually one of the summer weekends that people are trying to pack in their last days of camping or chalet time. But if you're planning to stay in the city it's good to know what's open and what's closed so you can plan out your Labour Day weekend.
