The United States got very close to its first female President in their last election — though we all know how that turned out — but things may actually change in 2020.
That is if former Montrealer and current California Senator, Kamala Harris, has anything to say about it.

TL;DR California Senator Kamala Harris just announced she's running for President in 2020. She spent many of her formative years in Montreal while her mother was a researcher and professor at the Jewish General Hospital and McGill University.

Kamala made the announcement today, intentionally timed to take place on the American holiday Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Like many of the Democratic women who swept the House in November, she openly states that she is not involved and will not get involved with corporate PAC money — political action committee or payout money.
Kamala was born in Oakland, California but moved to Montreal when she was twelve.
She lived in Montreal from around 1970 until the 1980s and attended Westmount high school.
In promotion of #KamalaHarris new book she states she was raised in Oakland, California. Harris's parents divorced when she was 7, and after divorce, her mom moved to Montreal, Kamala graduated from Montreal's Westmount High. So, from 7 to 16 she lived in Montreal.
During their time here, her mother developed a 16-year tenure at the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research at Montreal's Jewish General Hospital.
She also taught for the Department of Medicine at McGill University.
The Montreal Gazettesupposed Harris as a potential candidate in 2017 when they interviewed friends of hers from her school days in Montreal.
After graduation from Westmount High School, Harris went on to Howard University in Washington to study political science and economics.
Kamala Harris grew up in Montreal? I knew I liked her.
She then went on to achieve a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
That was the beginning of her ongoing career in law, as District Attorney, Attorney General of California, and California State Senator.
She looks like an all-around knockout of a candidate for the Democrats, though we can't forget there are many other amazing Dems who are slated to run, including Internet favourite Bernie Sanders and newcomer Beto O'Rourke.
