This Is What Will Happen To You If You Try To Buy "Legal Weed" In Montreal

In case you didn't know yet, Montreal has just opened 8 recreational pot dispensaries that open at 10:00 am today.

Merry Christmas to us!

Unfortunately, the only thing the news is covering are the locations of these stores.

But the first thing I was wondering about when I heard about these stores opening is: Will I get arrested if I shop there?

Sure these shops exist, but they are still technically illegal for the time being. And the mayor did say that federal laws should apply. But the owners of Cannabis Culture say they haven't been contacted by the police yet.

So I decided to see what happens when these kinds of stores get raided in Ontario.

When a shopwas raided last September in Peterborough, only 2 employees were arrested, but none of the clients.

And when a Cannabis Culture store in Toronto was raided in June, Jodie Emery was quoted saying:

Of course that was Ontario, so there is no way of predicting how the Montreal police will react.

According toCBC, the police said they "intervene when there are violations of the law that governs drugs and other substances."

We contacted the SPVM to ask them, but haven't heard back yet. Until then, if you decide to shop at Cannabis Culture, you're doing so at your own risk. Although it doesn't seem like you'd actually get arrested.

So if you're brave enough to go, here they are:

  • 1863 Amherst St.
  • 1412 Pie-IX Blvd.
  • 8870 St-Michel Blvd.
  • 7130 St-Laurent Blvd.
  • 2200 Mount Royal Ave. E.
  • 3804 Saint Laurent Blvd.
  • 1431B Bishop St.
  • 4961 Queen Mary Rd.

Good Luck!
