This Is Why You Never See Women Taxi Drivers In Montreal
I don't know about you but I've never been in a taxi driven by woman. In fact I've only seen a woman driving a taxi once in my life and it was not a very pleasant experience. I was stuck in traffic and the taxi driver in question was behind me. Up ahead was the start of the Taxi/Bus priority lane. The driver just couldn't wait a few moments until we reached it, so she decided to pass me by driving onto the sidewalk. That's when she hit my mirror with hers as she was attempting to squeeze by. Instead of apologizing for breaking the law and damaging my property, she made a weak attempt at hiding her face with a scarf and drove away.
That was the only time I've ever seen a female taxi driver. This morning, I got curious to see how many there actually were in Montreal and the numbers surprised me. In 2014 there were 11 625 taxi drivers in Montreal, and out of all those only 113 were women. That's less than 1% of the total workforce. That's insane, that means there are probably more female bouncers than there are female taxi drivers.
So that's why you never see women taxi drivers in Montreal, 'cause there's barely any.
I'm not sure what it is about the taxi industry that discourages women to join. It's not the potential danger, women do dangerous jobs all the time. So I'm genuinely curious why don't women want to be Taxi drivers?
