This Montreal Bombshell Is Living Your Dream Life

Meet Valentine, a young and fabulous professional flyboard girl (@Flyboard_valentine), born and raised in a Montreal French-Canadian family. She moved to Cancun, Mexico 13 years ago, traveled the world and never looked back since. "Mexico has my heart!" she says.

How did you get into flyboarding?

I got into flyboarding one day when my girlfriend took me to a Flyboard casting. They were looking to form a group of girl flyboarders. We had to show up and fly the board for free! The only hitch was that I had no idea it was a casting, my girlfriend didn't tell me... because she knew that if I would find out it was a casting, I would've never showed up, haha! Long story short, I went there to try Flyboard for the first time, had a blast doing it and received a call the very same night. I was selected to be part of the team. I stayed with that group a few months and then went to compete at the North American Flyboard Championship where I got approached by Aquafly, the biggest Flyboard team in the world. They signed me for 3 years! Proud to say that I'm the first and only girl in the team.

How often do you practice Flyboard?

I practice Flyboard 3-4 times a week, but the month prior to a competition I try to go in the water everyday.

What's the best part about this sport?

The best part about flyboarding is that feeling of freedom! You're up in the air, happy, feeling free and filled with an incredible adrenaline rush. I love it because once I'm there, sky is the limit, literally and I just go with flow. It's very extreme but artistic at the same time!

Did you ever get injured while practicing Flyboard?

As far as injuries, I've had my ankle sprained twice and a tendinitis in my left wrist... and my 546677,7888 muscles are pretty sore most of the time! Haha!

What's the most challenging Flyboard trick you've mastered so far?

The most challenging trick so far is my double backflip! As if a single backflip at 20 meters up in the air is not enough, haha!

Tell us what happened at Dubai's World Cup?

The World Cup in Dubai was AMAZING! All the best pro flyboarders attend this event. It is the biggest and most prestigious flyboard competiton. You have to submit a qualification video in order to be chosen. You get picked only if you're really good. It was an incredible event organized by the creator of Flyboard, a French genius, Franky Zapata, and by the Prince of Dubai who actually bought the competition for the next 5 years.

Competiton was fierce! It was my first World Cup, but certainly not the last. I competed against girls that have been practicing this sport for the past 3-4 years and I landed 4th place in the world after only over a year on the board. I'm so ready for next year!

How do you maintain such an incredible body?

I go to the gym 5 days a week at 7h30 everyday, it's like a ritual. On top of it, I have my Flyboard sessions that are actually pretty intense as well. I don't diet though. If I want to eat 10 tacos and 2 burritos to go, I do it. Life is too short not to enjoy the good things!

Do you think your looks are an asset in this sport or it’s all about skills?

I think my looks have definitely helped me land a few gigs here and there, such as sports endorsements from big companies like Jet Pilot and Headrush. I also get sponsored by Chief Eyewear from Australia and get sent a bunch of products, hats and bikinis for free, so it's fun! But on the board, your looks don't really matter. Your good looks can be easy on the eyes when you perform, but they won't help you much if you can't execute your tricks properly.

Do you miss Montreal?

I do miss Montreal! It is and will always be home in my heart. It is one of my most favorite cities in the world! Amazing people, good vibes, great restaurants and it's multi-cultural. But I'm a mermaid so I belong to the sea, the sun and the beach all year long! Haha!
