This Montreal Borough Has Banned Smoking Marijuana Everywhere

Marijuana has been legal in Canada for almost a week now, and it seems like everyone is finally settling down and getting used to the fact that that we'll be seeing it a lot more in the public.

TL;DR The Saint-Laurent borough has officially banned public use of cannabis, with anyone breaking the rule receiving up to a $2,000 fine. The CAQ government has promised a province-wide ban on public marijuana use in the near future.

In Montreal, it was announced earlier this month that pot would be allowed basically anywhere you could normally smoke a cigarette. This means that smoking inplaces such as bus shelters and schools would be prohibited, which seems pretty fair.

Well, in a sudden twist of events, Saint-Laurent has completely banned the public use of cannabis and breaking this new law can earn you a pretty big fine.

The weed ban means it would be a violation to smoke in places such as parks, sidewalks, bike paths, near public buildings, and essentially everywhere else other than inside your home.

In case you were wondering what would happen if you decided to go against this new rule in the borough? Well, you could land yourself up to $2,000 in fines.

It's not like this is an unspoken rule either, as the borough has put up multiple signs to remind Montrealers of the rules in parks and other busy public areas.

Unfortunately, if you were thinking this was an isolated incident, you'd be wrong. Other cities and municipalities across the province are working hard to ban consumption of marijuana in public.

The new CAQ government has promised a province-wide ban on public use as well, so it's really only a matter of time until cannabis is effectively illegal in Quebec all over again.

Stay tuned for more information.
