Montreal is home to many incredible public spaces and parks. When summertime rolls around, these public spaces become our second home.

Perfect for an impromptu mid-day picknick when you need a break from the office, for a low-pressure first date, or just for long meandering conversations with your bestie while basking in the summer sun.

Place Jean-Paul-Riopellein the Quartier international de Montréal is a stunning public space. On Viger street and sandwiched between downtown and the Old Port, this is the perfect park to bring a summer date or out-of-town friend.

The main attraction here: La Joute. La Joute is a public sculptural installation by iconic Quebec artist Jean-Paul Riopelle, a member of the Automatiste movement.

This is not any normal fountain, though. Starting in mid-May, this fountain transforms into an incredible 35-minute smoke and fire show every night.

Starting at 5:30PM, and with the fountain set to "give" six shows every night, this is a great place to pop by before or after a night out downtown or in the Old Port.
