This Quebec Region Got So Much Snow It Is Literally "Cut Off From The Rest Of The World"

Quebec has among the most beautiful and diverse landscapes in the country.

In la belle province, you'll find everything from snow-covered mountains to red, sandy beaches.

TL;DR A major overnight snowstorm has knocked out landline, cell, and internet service on les Îles-de-la-Madeleine.

Perhaps the most unique region of the province, however, are les Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Quebec's own slice of the Maritimes.

The islands are actually geographically closer to Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia than the Quebec mainland.

They offer some of the most picturesque and sublime views in Canada. The islands' colourful cottages and wind-swept plains are perhaps their most recognizable features.

Of course, their distance from the mainland presents some logistical challenges.

This week, for instance, residents of the islands have been completely "cut off from the world," according to La Presse.

A major overnight snowstorm has left islanders without landline, cell, or internet service.

One resident told the paper that they are currently without any electricity.

So far, it's unclear when this issue will be resolved or if it poses a danger to the well-being of islanders.

The scenario is probably a nightmare for some. The loss of phone service and electricity could be panic-inducing. Such isolation could especially harm residents in need of medical services.

Island residents should be sure to check on their neighbours, especially the elderly, regularly.

This is only the beginning of what will likely be a harsh winter in Quebec. Across Canada, according to the Farmer's Almanac, people should prepare for "teeth-chattering cold" and irregularly frequent precipitation.

Stay tuned.
