To All Montreal Stoners, This Is Why You Get The Munchies

Maryjane and the munchies, finally explained.
To All Montreal Stoners, This Is Why You Get The Munchies

Science has finally delved into something useful: the munchies.

A study, published in Nature Neuroscience, injected mice with THC (so basically got them high) and studied the effects.

When a mouse got stoned, smell receptors in their brain went off, much like they do when someone skips a meal and are super hungry.

Skipping a meal makes your brain produce endocannibinoids, compounds similar to THC, which give you a heightened sense of smell, and thus, hunger, as smell is strongly linked to taste and eating. Weed is tricking your body into thinking it needs more food and energy.

In a nut shell: smoking weed makes your brain think you skipped a meal, triggering your smell receptors, making you hungry, and ready to get your munchies on.
