Trudeau Publicly Shuts Down Woman Shouting Racist Comments (Video)

Amid a continent-wide conversation about immigration and race relations, it's often the people with the most deplorable opinions who feel the most emboldened.

Those loud voices come to dominate public disoucrse if officials are reluctant to unequivocally condemn them.

Luckily, in Canada, we have a prime minister who is steadfast in his rejection of racist and hateful rhetoric.

Just days before marching in the Montreal Pride Parade, a celebration of visibility and acceptance, Justin Trudeau attended a rally in rural Quebec where he demonstrated his unwavering support of immigrants to Canada.

In a video posted to Youtube on Sunday, a woman can be seen demanding that Trudeau repay to the Québécois what she calls the hundreds of millions of dollars that the federal government has dedicated to refugees, asylum-seekers, and others that have crossed the border into Canada seeking safety and opportunity.

Such a claim is, of course, inflated and premised on a regressive understanding of nationalism that includes only the white descendents of French settlers in Quebec. In fact, Quebec is and has always been home to a diverse population.

Trudeau rightfully had no patience for this woman's divisive rhetoric. He quickly responds by stating, to loud cheers from the audience, that such "intolerance" has "no place in Canada."

But the woman refuses to concede her point and persists despite calls from other audience members to be quiet. Among cheers, Trudeau makes his closing remarks before leaving the stage. The ensuing excitement completely drowns out her questions.

At the end of the video, a man in plain clothes claiming to be an officer of the RCMP approaches the woman to question her, though we cannot independently confirm that this man actually is a member of law enforcement.

Audience members continue to approach and criticize the woman through the end of the video.

Watch the remarkable exchange below!
