Even when she's not riding a giant hot dog, Miley Cyrus causes controversy. A liberal arts university in Saratoga Springs, New York, will be offering a summer course entitled "The Sociology of Miley Cyrus: Race, Class, Gender and Media."
Visiting assistant professor Carolyn Chernoff says students of Skidmore College taking this course will be focusing on everything Miley in order to discuss issues such as race, gender, fame, class and power.
Alumni of the private college are not thrilled. In a letter making its rounds on social media, Skidmore College alumnus Rick Pecka (B.A. Creative Writing, Minor in Business) states:
I am not a parent, but I know if my son or daughter were to tell me they were taking this course, I would have multiple questions as to where my dollars were going. [...] This reeks of the worst kind of attention-getting ploy. Skidmore is above such gimmickry.
College courses focused on pop culture icons have been popping up all over North America and we're sure this trend is going to keep growing. However, many members of the Skidmore College community think that the Miley-centric course has crossed the line and is tarnishing the school's reputation.
No official statement has been released from Ms. Miley Cyrus herself but we're certain she'll have something outrageous to say.
