Whenever I find out someone is vegan, I always feel bad that they're missing out on so much deliciousness. In those cases, I'm usually thinking about the food I couldn't live without such as meat and cheese. But there's one food I never even considered, Nutella.
Vegan's can't eat Nutella and I personally think that this fact is unacceptable. So when I found this recipe for Vegan Nutella Banana Shakes, I thought to myself, here's another poor soul who didn't realize Nutella wasn't vegan friendly. But it turns out that the food bloggers at Second Breakfast have found a way to make their own homemade vegan Nutella which can be used in a number of recipes including this one.
So here you'll be learning how to make 2 things Vegan Nutella as well as the chocolate banana shakes. We have a lot to cover so let's get started
For the nutella you'll need: 2 cups hazelnuts - 1/4 cup of sugar - 1/2 teaspoon of salt - 2 ounces of semi sweet chocolate - 3/4 cup of unsweetened almond milk - 1/3 cup cocoa powder.
Place the hazelnuts on a baking sheet lined with tin foil and roast at 400F for 10 minutes or until you see the skin crack. Once they've cooled down, Preheat oven to 400F and roast hazelnuts for 10-12 minutes, until skins are cracked and nuts are golden. Let cool for a few minutes and remove the skin. Throw them into a food processor and add the sugar and salt and cocoa powder then blend until it forms an even paste. Slowly melt the chocolate (microwave or stove-top), and mix in the almond milk then add the mixture to the hazelnut paste in the food processor. Blend until everything is creamy and smooth. taste and adjust the sweetness accordingly. (unlike real Nutella this one must be stored in the fridge)
Now that you have you Nutella, let's make those shakes, you'll need: 1 large banana chopped and frozen - 1/2 cup of homemade Nutella - 1/2 cup of almond milk and some ice cubes.
Blend the frozen banana into a paste then add your Nutella, almond milk and 10 ice cubes and blend it all together.
