Victim Robbed At Knifepoint Near Jurassic Park After Raptors Game

The Toronto Raptors have been the team on the mind of every Canadian this weekend. The basketball team has been making headlines for its record wins, advancing to the second game of the NBA finals this weekend.

Of course, Raptors fans have also been making headlines. The Golden State Warriors players and coach have quipped that Raptors fans are so Canadian that they are polite even when they are heckling players.

But there is also a darker side to some Raptors fans, who have reportedly lit fireworks outside of the hotel window of the Golden State Warriors in order to rattle them. Reports are also emerging of robberies around Jurassic Park, the area where fans gather to watch the game.

Global News reported that, according to Peel Regional Police, two robberies occurred close to Jurassic Park West in Mississauga. Jurassic Park, usually known as "Celebration Square," has hosted live Raptors viewing parties.

The incidents took place on Sunday, June 2, moments after the end of Game Two of the NBA Finals, between 11:00 p.m. and 11:35 p.m.

At the first robbery, an unidentified victim was robbed at knifepoint. According to Global News, "some personal property and cash were taken."

Luckily, as the tweet above indicates, the suspect was quickly taken into custody by the police.

A 19-year-old man was later taken into custody in connection with the robbery. He was chased by police, who deployed a Taser but did not hit the suspect with it, according to CityTV.

The second robbery reportedly did not involve any weapons. Personal property and cash were also taken. According to Global News, two people have been arrested in connection with the incident but they have not yet been charged.

It would seem that the suspects were hoping to use the excitement of the event to mask their attempted crimes.

Game Three of the Raptors is scheduled for Wednesday, June 5 at 9:00 p.m.

A total of three people were charged in connection with two robberies that occurred last night at Celebration Square in Mississauga moments after the end of Game Two of the NBA finals.
