Video Shows Rare Mesmerizing "Ice Crop Circle" In Quebec

Quebec has its fair share of strange wintertime phenomena. Quebecers' intimate familiarity with the snow and cold, for example, often lead to some cold-weather antics that become viral moments.

But the province is host to some pretty dazzling natural phenomena, too. This week in the Gaspésie region of Quebec, for example, a rare "ice disk" has caught the attention of the internet.

Often jokingly called an "ice crop circle," the ice disc is actually the result of patterns in the water current, according to Time magazine. A whirlpool below creates the perfectly round saucer visible on the surface.

This is actually the second "ice crop circle" to make headlines this winter. A much larger disc appeared last month in Westbrook, Maine.

A Twitter post from the Westbrook municipal account comparing it to the moon launched countless other comparisons from Twitter users.

We're glad this time in Quebec no one was abducted or implicated in a rebellion in a galaxy far, far away.

Keep your eyes peeled for more bizarre winter occurences!
