We Now Know What Date Marijuana Will Be Legal In Canada

It's been a big week for Canada's Cannabis Act!

Just last week our provincial bylaw in Quebec officially passed, and we were waiting for Parliament Hill to get their side of the coin together.

Yesterday, the Canadian governmentrejected the Senates recommended amendments, sent back the bill and late last night it was approved as is with a vote of 52 in favour, and 29 against.

Today, this story has been all over the news. This is monumental for Canada, which has now officially ended over 90 years of prohibition on the magical plant that does so much more than just give you warm fuzzy brain feelings.

Now that we have officially made it, and the biggest campaign promise from PM Justin Trudeau has been kept, we are waiting for an announcement from our PM to confirm exactly what we have already been told.

It’s been too easy for our kids to get marijuana - and for criminals to reap the profits. Today, we change that. Our plan to legalize & regulate marijuana just passed the Senate. #PromiseKept

Under Canada's Cannabis Act, provinces are granted a grace period of 8-12 weeks to get properly set up for the legal distribution of Marijuana.

This delay will include local law enforcement preparing themselves for roadside sobriety tests, and provincial governments to decide on factors such as home cultivation and public consumption.

Quebec, Manitoba, and Nunavut all want to forbid their citizens from growing recreational marijuana at home, even after cannabis is legalized federally.

This is due to the fact that the permitted amount of plants in provinces that favour home cultivation can produce well above the legal amount permitted to be in any ones home at one given time.

Expect a lot of stories to come out about these debates, and remember to get out to Quebec's election this fall and ensure our provincial government won't fall into the hands of politicians vocally against the Cannabis Act of Canada.

With the current 8-12 week grace period, you can expect to be able to get legal Marijuana in September 2018.

UPDATE - Justin Trudeau confirms October 17, 2018, as the official date of legal marijuana in Canada.

Congratulations, Canada! This is a victory.
