What Men Vs. Women Really Think About "Street Harassment" In Montreal

Whether you're aware of it or not, street harassment (or "catcalling" as it is more commonly known) is a prevalent issue across almost all North American cities, Montreal included.

Officially defined as "unwanted comments, gestures, and actions forced on a stranger in a public place without their consent," street harassment is a daily occurrence in Montreal, and that needs to stop.

Putting an end to street harassment is the ultimate goal of Montreal-based non-profit organization Women in Cities International, a group that aims to expose street harassment as a serious international issue, one that consistently puts both men and women at risk.

In order to collect data and opinions on the issue of street harassment, Women in Cities International took to the streets of Montreal and interviewed both men and women on the topic.

Interestingly, but quite troubling, not all Montreal men were aware that street harassment was a serious issue in the city, or internationally. Conversely, next to all women interviewed explicitly stated that street harassment is a major issue, one that occurs frequently and instills a sense of fear.

But that isn't to say all men who were interviewed were completely ignorant on the topic of street harassment. To see what both Montreal men and women had to say, check out the video below.
