What You Should Probably Know About Going Gluten-Free

Celiac disease is no joke, people who suffer from the chronic digestive disease will suffer from strong stomach pains, irritable bowel movements, fatigue etc.

Once gluten is ingested their small intestine disregards any other nutrients ingested. Gluten causes damage to the small intestine which, without treatment can cause serious health problems.

However, there is the other side to this story which are those who do not suffer from gluten-sensitivity yet still choose a gluten-free diet. Seriously, nobody gets it. The idea that going gluten-free will actually enforce you to eat better and lose weight is bogus.

The only thing that it might actually do for you is restrict the amount of things you can order from the restaurant menu. Just because it says gluten-free, it does not necessarily mean that it is fat-free or lower in calories.

Just because a brownie is 'gluten-free' doesn't make it acceptable to eat the brownie (in the case, you're trying to get healthier or lose weight). It doesn't work that way.

Gluten-free foods such as breads are actually higher in carbohydrate content and calories because the gluten is replaced with either cornstarch or other substitutes. The reason being is because these substitutes are more dense therefore higher in calories.

You must also remember that people who suffer from celiac disease are only a small 10% of the population. There has been no proven study that there is a link to diseases from eating a gluten diet if you are not allergic to it.

So if you're not feeling sick after you eat it then there is no reason to avoid it. You will be in fact saving time, money, energy, and enjoying the same foods the way you can.
