Tragedy nearly struck everyone’s favourite redheaded teenage heartthrob, as KJ Apa, who plays Archie Andrews on Riverdale, got into a fairly serious car accident in Vancouver.
Last week, when driving home after a 16-hour day shooting in Vancouver, Apa fell asleep at the wheel, says the Hollywood Reporter.

Apa’s car then hit a light pole, sometime after midnight.
Taken to the hospital immediately afterwards, Apa is said not to have experienced any major injuries.
The same can’t be said for his car. Utterly wrecked, Apa’s car was deemed unusable following the crash.
The car’s passenger side was hit particularly hard, described as “destroyed.”
What’s scary is that Cole Sprouse, who plays Jughead on Riverdale, was supposed to get a ride home with Apa after filming was done.
In what may be fate, Sprouse made plans to get a ride from somewhere else.
The car crash has now sparked a debate on workplace practices on the CW show.
Sources say the cast is regularly forced to work long hours and no means of transportation is provided when shooting ends, even if the end-time is very late at night/in the early morning.
An investigation into the set will be performed and there’s a rumour the actors will be speaking to Warner Bros. studio executives about their workplace conditions.
And while we’re all very concerned for Apa, Sprouse, and the rest of the Riverdale cast, I think we can all breathe a collective sigh of relief that Archie’s abs were not harmed in the crash. May the good lord watcheth over them.
