What it takes for a Canadian goose down jacket to attain its down-filled warming properties may surprise you. In fact, it will probably horrify you.
People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) released a video showcasing the cruel treatment of geese by farmers working for a popular Canadian goose down jacket company
The exposé, shot by members of PETA at James Valley Colony Farms (JVC) in Manitoba, a Canadian goose down supplier, is visceral and shocking, to say the least.
Geese are rounded up by the neck, crammed into tight quarters, and are forced to watch as their killed one by one. The living conditions of geese are far from humane, and that’s putting it lightly.
The video is in direct contrast to what Canadian goose down jacket companies are telling the public. They claim to be committed to the “ethical sourcing of all animal materials.” That means the geese at JVC should be free from any pain or panic.
From PETA’s video, that isn’t quite the case. See for yourself below, but a warning, some of the footage may be disturbing to some viewers. You have been warned.
