What’s Open & What’s Closed On New Years Day 2018 In Montreal

It's a new year and it's important to start it off on the right foot.

You definitely don't want the start the year off by braving sub-zero temperatures only to find out your chosen destination is closed for the day. 

But worry not, we got you covered.

Be sure to consult this list before you make any plans. Here are all the places that will open and closed on New Year Day.  

What’s Open:

  • Some pharmacies (again, call ahead to make sure)

  • Movie theatres

  • A majority of skating rinks

  • Montreal’s Espace pour la vie muséums (Biodôme, Insectarium, etc.)

  • A majority of skating rinks

  • Smaller grocery stories (they’re not obliged to close on public holidays)

  • STM buses and metro (running on holiday schedules)

What’s closed:

  • Banks and federal/provincial government offices

  • Public markets will close early on Dec. 31st and re-open on Jan. 2nd

  • Montreal Science Centre (Jan 1st only)

  • Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and Pointe-à-Callière Museum (Jan 1st only)

  • SAQ stores (closed on Jan 1st)

  • Municipal offices (closed until January 4th)

  • Some restaurants (give a call ahead)

  • Major retail stories (IKEA, Wal Mart, etc)
