What's Open & What's Closed On Canada Day In Montreal

Canada Day is less than a week away, and after just having the day off for Saint-Jean-Baptiste I'm feeling pretty spoiled with these two consecutive mid-week breaks. If you're not going to be spending your day moving house, then it's the perfect opportunity to get out and enjoy the city. Maybe even go watch the parade? If you are going to be out and about, it's good to know what's open and closed in Montreal so as to avoid any confusion and/or disappointment, and that's where we come in. Here's a list of what's open and closed in Montreal this Canada Day.

What's Open:

  • Most deps
  • Montreal beaches
  • Parc Jean-Drapeau
  • Biodome
  • Museum of Fine Arts
  • Botanical Gardens
  • Insectarium
  • Science Centre
  • Planetarium
  • Public markets
  • SAQs (that aren't in malls)
  • Movie theatres
  • The Casino
  • Parking meters
  • Garbage and recycling pickups
  • Marche Bonsecours
  • AMT on a modified schedule
  • STM on a holiday schedule

What's Closed:

  • Banks
  • Montreal city offices
  • Municipal courts
  • Provincial and Federal offices
  • Malls
  • Some pharmacies and super markets (check your local listings)
  • Canada Post
  • Most retail stores
  • Some swimming pools and sport centres (dependent on your neighbourhood, so call ahead)
  • Some libraries (again, call ahead)

If none of the things that are open float your boat, here are a few alternative ways to spend your Canada Day in Montreal.
