Where You Can Eat The Best Italian Food In Montreal Outside Of Little Italy

You probably don't need us to tell you (though we really do like to), Montreal is full of great restaurants of all shapes and sizes. So many, in fact, it can be hard to keep track! This city literally offers something for everyone, and on the menu today is Italian. Delicious, comforting Italian food just like your Nonna used to make when you were a little bambino, full of love and rich flavour.

Don't have a Nonna? It doesn't matter because we recently discovered a gem of a restaurant that's serving up some of the most authentic Italian food this side of Italy, or at least Little Italy anyway.

Located in Charming Vieux Longueuil (yes, you have to travel sometimes to get amazing food), Restaurant Trebbiano is literally 10-15 minutes from the downtown core, but is so worth the trip. With all the classics you'd expect from an osteria, like 3-meat polpetti, hand-rolled gnocchi with Gorgonzola and spinach, and the best polpo alla Siciliana we've ever had, Trebbiano had us hooked even before the mains came out.

While the dishes were as about as authentic and traditional as they could get (my personal fave being the Linguini con gamberi e porcini with fat succulent shrimp and a Brandy cream sauce just begging to be lapped up with the warm bread), the restaurant itself was a nice cross between classic and contemporary. Just fancy enough to impress a hot date, but also a friendly laid-back atmosphere, making it ideal for a quick lunch or a full-blown, loosen your belt, eat 'till hurts feast you won't soon forget.

We couldn't have asked for better service either. When it says "Authentic Italian" on the sign, Trebbiano is not just talking about the food. You will be well-received, spoiled, and fed more food than anyone should ever eat in one sitting, just like the Italians do best.

The prices are affordable, the wine list is very respectable, and Trebbiano also offers a solid mix of gluten-free options (pasta included) for all you wheat-intolerant folk out there.

In a city known for its restaurants, it's always a joy to discover new ones that not only satisfy our never-ending appetites, but also make us actually fall in love with food all over again. Out-of-this-world authentic Italian flavours, impeccable service, and a relaxed, elegant vibe both inside the 55-person dining room as well as the inviting terrasse outside, Trebbiano has quietly but confidently given us a great reason to visit Longueuil more often.

Check out Trebbiano's website for the complete menu and the Facebook page for more details.
