The bright side to clouds.
Why Bad Weather Is Beneficial To Your Health

We here in Montreal have been experiencing a bout of crappy weather. The constantly cloudy skies and the threat of rain at any moment can get real old, real quick. And while I have gotten out my fair share of complaining, I've decided to turn over a new leaf and be positive for  a change. So I'm here today to talk to you about the benefits of $hitty weather.

Let's start off with rain. My old friend. We all know rain is great for the earth. However, while rain actually isn't the best thing for your hair or your skin, it can be good for your body in other ways.

Moving water, like water falls, streams, and - you guessed it - rain, releases negative ions into the atmosphere. Negative ions "are tasteless, odourless and invisible molecules, and once they reach our bloodstream, they are believed to produce biochemical reactions that help to relieve stress, alleviate depression and even boost our energy." Have you ever taken a walk after it rains and felt a sense of lightness? Those are negative ions for you!

And cloudy cities are good places to live in general. The constant supply of rain water makes the city a more sustainable place to live in. Clouds are essentially "delivery trucks" for a fresh, clean water supply. So while you may have to deal with a couple more grey days, at least you don't have to feel guilty every time you turn on your tap.

Finally, when there is rain, there is a lot of time spent inside and can often lead to boredom, which is what my last point is about. While being bored isn't exactly the most pleasant of experiences, there are plenty of studies showing that being bored is actually a good thing. If you're always on the go, you may think you're being productive when you're really inhibiting yourself from doing just that. A bored mind is a blank canvas, it's a time for creative productivity. People can produce some amazing things when their brain isn't preoccupied.

So, while you may not love the idea of cloudy skies, I hope you can at least see that it's not all bad. And maybe take comfort in the fact that July will be sunnier...
