Why Netflix Canada Is Going To Be Awful In 2019

2019 is upon us and that means big changes are coming, at least when it comes to the way we stream content in Canada. For the last few years Netflix has been dominating the streaming game in which meant you could get away with paying only one fee and you had all your favourite content in one place.
Sadly that's coming to an end which means Netflix is going to be awful in 2019, here's why:

More Expensive
The price of Netflix is going up in Canada in 2019 and we're not talking about a few cents. This will be an increase of nearly 25% for the most popular standard package. And Netflix isn't planning on using that money to acquire the rights the shows and movies we all love, they just want to create more crappy original content.
More Competition
This yearDisney and WarnerMedia are planning launching their own streaming services. So all those amazing movies and shows that used to be on Netflix will be removed and we will now have to subscribe to 4 or 5 different streaming services to be able to enjoy the same variety of content we have now.
Canadian Problems
Disney and WarnersMedia may be launching their own streaming service, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they will available in Canada. So far we know very little about these services (we don’t even know the price yet), so it's not that far-fetched to assume that just like HULU, they won’t be available in Canada.
Less Content
One of the complaints we hear most often about Netflix is that they don't have enough content available. Unfortunately things are about to get a lot worse. Netflix has slowly been removing countless popular TV shows and movies, and since we likely won't have the same streaming options as the people living in the US, Canada is going to be left out in the cold.
So when it's all said and done, instead of having one big channel with lots of content, after 2019 we may be stuck having to subscribe to multiple streamign services that mostly feature their own original content.
We're basically slowly recreating a more expensive version of television on the internet!
With so many changes coming and so many details still unknown it's hard not to be pessimistic about the future of Netflix and streaming in Canada in 2019.
