Winter Storm Warning: 30cm Of Snow Coming To Southern Quebec Tomorrow

Whether you were happy or not to wake up to some snow in Montreal this morning, this is the city you live in. So, you can't be surprised that I'm here to tell you: more snow is coming.

Several parts of Southern Quebec can expect serious snow tomorrow, Wednesday the 9th, with some areas even being issued a winter storm warning.

TL;DR Southern Quebec can expect another huge dump of snow tomorrow, paired with strong winds, so plan any travel accordingly.

If you were commuting this morning, you likely felt the effects of last night's snowfall. Strong winds brought heavy snow that covered the city of Montreal and made travel very dangerous.

Dangerous driving conditions become prevalent when snow begins to blow and visibility is reduced.

Winds are expected to pick up this evening and continue into Wednesday when, "blowing snow will reduce visibilities to nearly zero," according to The Weather Network.

Areas around the Saint Lawrence River can expect up to 30 cm of snow or more as the next winter system travels through the region.

Widespread 10 to 15cm snowfall amounts across the Montreal region as well as north and east of Montreal. Roads are snow covered in many cases, travel is slow. The snow is a result of a low-pressure system that is coming in from the Great Lakes. The storm is expected to reach the coast of Maine this evening, meaning Southern Quebec can prepare for high amounts of snowfall.

The greatest snowfall will occur Wednesday and will be accompanied by strong winds. The duo has spurred the government to issue warnings for several parts of Southern Quebec.

As per Environment Canada, Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for the following areas:

  • Charlevoix
  • Montmagny
  • L'Islet
  • Forillon National Park
  • Gaspé
  • Percé
  • New Carlisle
  • Chandler
  • Restigouche
  • Bonaventure

Most of the rest of Southern Quebec should be aware that there is a Blowing Snow Advisory and driving conditions are sure to be affected.

Environment Canada is suggesting that Canadians consider "postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve."

We can also expect a serious drop in temperature as we move into the weekend, especially as Arctic air is sure to bring the wind chill.

You can check how your region will be affected here, on the Government of Canada website or via The Weather Network.
