It's finally June, and summer is well and truly here: We're checking the humidity index, wearing as little as possible, slapping on the sunscreen and basking in the sun. You may have even attended a few BBQs already. If one thing is for sure, it's that Montrealers are bonkers for their three months of summer, and that means your schedule is probably already jam-packed with outdoor festivals and activities!
But there's one event happening this sunny season that you definitely won't want to miss, and it has to do with gin, jazz and soaring over Montreal in a massive balloon.
If you're over 18, you're probably familiar with Hendrick's Gin. The super premium hand crafted, small batch gin company is - obviously - known for their gin. Unusually infused with cucumber and rose, you've probably drank (or at least come across) a few bottles in your adult lifetime. And now, the Scotland-based brand is coming to Montreal's Jazz Fest to fly downtown's first ever hot air balloon.
Montrealers have the chance to win a pair of coveted Golden Tickets to ride the balloon on June 28th or 29th and can enter either through the Hendrick's Gin website or through partner bars and restaurants in Montreal, like Bord'elle.
Interested in soaring over downtown MTL and getting the best perspective on all the action? All you have to do is submit your entry before June 21st at midnight. The official draw will take place on Friday, June 22nd at 10:00am EST.
Winners will be able to choose a time between 6:00pm and 11:45pm to ride the hot air balloon (and afterward attend VIP festivities) at the Jazz Festival. Entrants must live in Quebec and be of legal drinking age to be eligible, but don't worry, if you happen to be under 18 or miss the chance to enter, Hendrick's Gin has a few other surprises up its sleeve for attendees of the Montreal Jazz Festival!
In celebration of a gin and tonic's most celebrated and necessary garnish, the cucumber, Hendrick's Gin will unveil the world's first Jazz Cucumber Organ - or CORGAN - with real, whole cucumbers for keys. Yes, you read that right!
To top it off, Hendrick's will be giving out complimentary G&T samples in mini tea cups at the VIP Departure Gate, located beside the Hendrick's Hot Air Balloon near Rue Jeanne-Mance & Rue Sainte-Catherine, 6PM until midnight on both days (June 28th - 29th). Told you this was an event you wouldn't want to miss!
Visit the Hendrick's Gin contest website for your chance to win a pair of Hendrick's Gin coveted golden tickets to ride the first ever hot air balloon to fly in downtown Montreal, and check out their Facebook and Instagram pages!
Montreal's iconic Greenspot restaurant is selling hot dogs for $0.74 this weekend, September 18 and 19, to celebrate its 74th anniversary.
On Facebook, the Saint-Henri institution says it's converting its small parking lot on avenue Greene into a picnic area for the event.
And the wiener fun doesn't stop there. Greenspot is having a contest on its Instagram page where followers have the chance to win 74 hot dogs — a prize they can redeem at their discretion.
The restaurant invites followers to share the Instagram post and tag three friends to enter the contest.
Daily two-for-one deals have also been part of the 74th-anniversary celebrations.
Dating back to 1947, Greenspot serves American and Quebec diner classics (including a long list of hearty poutines) amid retro decor (including individual table jukeboxes — they don't work but they're super charming!).
