Good news for pretty much everyone in Quebec in Montreal: the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec and the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec have just increased the duration of validity of all health insurance cards and drivers licenses from 4 years to 8 years.

Doubling the duration of both cards was done by both government groups in order to make the lives of citizens a bit easier, as you'll have to get your cards renewed half as often. Environmentally speaking, less paper and plastic will have to be used to make as many cards, so Mother Nature gets a perk out of the new mandate too.

The provincial government will get to save some money as well, having to spend less money on actually creating, renewing, and sending out new cards. Funny how that part wasn't mentioned in the official online press release.

The decision to double the duration of Sun cards and drivers licenses was made early this year, with the change going active yesterday. All renewal processes will still stay the same.
