In January, officials released a set of essential travel tips for Canadians planning vacations this season.
The recommendations touched on everything from little-known passport rules to the importance of reviewing your insurance and staying aware of updated government travel warnings.
Government travel advisories fall into four categories: "Take normal security precautions," "Exercise a high degree of caution," "Avoid non-essential travel," and "Avoid all travel."
While these warnings aren't meant to deter you from taking a trip, they are designed to help you travel safely and make informed decisions. Remember though, overlooking travel advisories could be costly, as many insurance providers won't offer coverage in areas deemed high-risk.
