With a mix of virtual and in-person celebrations, this year's Pride festivities continue to look a little different because of public health and safety measures. Happily, Montreal's performance troupe, Le Monastère, is set to come through with its annual Pride Circus Cabaret.

If you're unfamiliar, Le Monastère is a non-profit organization that stages year-round circus cabarets throughout Montreal. The annual Pride Circus Cabaret show is intended to celebrate Pride in a truly unique way. The aerial arts and aerobics performances are all about self-expression — delivered in a gravity-defying fashion, no less.

It might be a cliché to say "this summer will be the best one ever" in Montreal but looking at what's been announced so far, that cliché might ring true.

In addition to the already incredible summer events lined up in and around the Quartier des Spectacles, the recently announced Aventures du coeur de l'île bring circus acts, dancers and 600 local artists to take over the streets of downtown Montreal with spontaneous performances every single week for three months starting June 26.

Laurent Racicot has been juggling assignments, jumping through hoops and bending over backward to get a passing grade — literally. “The circus has always fascinated me,” he said.

“When I was little, I went to see the Cirque Du Soleil and I still remember the stars I had in my eyes while watching the artists. I dreamed of being able to be on stage in their shoes one day.”

In Montreal we have plenty of unusual and colorful characters walking the streets. So can you imagine the kind of shit you'll see at an actual Montreal Freak Show.

This year marks the 2nd edition of Le Freak Show de la TOHU and the best part is, it's FREE!

Cirque du Soleil is the largest theatrical producer in the world. Most of us are familiar with this company and, the luckiest among us, have attended at least a show or two.

I'm completely mystified with visually stimulating shows that CDS performers spoil us with. But, most importantly, I'm curious about what happens after the show. What's their "secret" life like? I got a chance to speak to Nikolai Liubezny, an established Cirque du Soleil performer, who was kind enough to offer me a sneak peek into the circus life.

Learning about Montreal's long and rich history isn't exactly an exciting time to many. I get it, dates, facts, and historical figures are generally presented in a pretty boring fashion (e.g. textbooks and history class) but that will change come 2017.

Marking Montreal's 375th anniversary, a new type of circus performance will open, one that will showcase the city's unique history while immersing the audience into the spectacle itself.
