UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson Shared His Love For Montreal BIXIs In A Call With Trudeau
At a meeting announcing the new Canada-United Kingdom Trade Continuity Agreement with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson gave a surprise shout-out to Montreal's BIXI bikes.
Discussing a move to develop greener technology in his country, Johnson explained how he helped to develop rental bike services when he was mayor of London by looking across the pond for inspiration.
According to Johnson, the "best" bikes were found right here, in Montreal.

"12 years ago I became mayor of London and had to put these 'hire-bikes' [...] on our streets and we needed to find the best and most cost-effective but very, very chunky bike," said Johnson.
The folks over at BIXI were very proud to be referenced in an international meeting and thanked the British prime minister on Twitter.
"They've been a fantastic success on the streets of our capital," said Johnson.
In London, BIXIs are known as Santander Cycles, sponsored by and named after the Spanish financial services group.
Montreal's BIXI was established in 2009 and since then, has been helping Montrealers and tourists alike zoom around town in comfort and style.
