Quebec Minister Isabelle Charest Is Calling For A Harsher Punishment For Mark Scheifele
In a statement posted to Twitter, CAQ Minister Isabelle Charest called for "exemplary sanctions" on Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele following his gruesome hit on Montreal Canadiens forward Jake Evans. Â
On Wednesday night, Evans was knocked unconscious and suffered a concussion after Scheifele plowed into him in the dying minutes of Game 1 of the Canadiens-Jets playoff series. Fans and hockey pundits alike were dismayed by the violence of Scheifele's actions and called for his suspension.Â

As a result, the NHL decided to suspend Scheifele for four games. Scheifele, however, reportedly called the suspension "excessive."Â
But that's not enough, according to Charest, who said she was "troubled" by the NHL's decision and asked, "what example does it send to our young people?"Â
"Violence must no longer be tolerated and exemplary sanctions must be imposed. It needs to change!"
