Over 66K vehicles are being recalled in Canada including from Chevrolet, Kia, RAM & Tesla
We may be less than a month into 2025, but Transport Canada has already issued recalls for over 66,000 vehicles sold in Canada, including ones from popular manufacturers like GM, Honda, Kia, Tesla and more.
These recalls span a variety of safety concerns, from brake and airbag issues to problems with high-voltage and visual systems — all of which could pose serious risks of crash and/or injury.
Transport Canada has flagged some big-name makes, including Chevrolet, RAM and Acura, for defects that could lead to crashes or injuries. Thankfully, manufacturers will typically fix your car for free if it's part of one of these vehicle recalls in Canada.

Acura
Models recalled in January 2025: 2024 Acura ZDX
Units affected: 5
Recall date: January 16, 2025
Details: A small number of electric vehicles have been recalled due to improperly tightened bolts on the passenger-side front stabilizer bar bracket. If the bolts loosen, the stabilizer bar or bracket could detach, potentially damaging the high-voltage cables or battery coolant lines and causing a loss of power to the wheels, which increases the risk of a crash.
What to do: Honda will notify affected owners by mail. You will need to bring your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and tighten the stabilizer bar bracket bolts. Any damaged parts, including the stabilizer bar, bracket, high-voltage cables or coolant lines, will be repaired.
Jaguar
Models recalled in January 2025: 2019-2020 Jaguar XE
Units affected: 143
Recall date: January 16, 2025
Details: Certain vehicles require a second repair after a previous recall (Transport Canada recall no. 2023-401). The rear-view camera wiring harness in the trunk may become damaged, potentially preventing the rear-view image from displaying properly or at all when reversing. This issue does not meet Canadian safety regulations and could increase the risk of a crash.
What to do: Jaguar will notify affected owners by mail. You should take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, repair or replace the rear-view camera wiring harness.
Land Rover
Models recalled in January 2025:
- 2023-2024 Land Rover Defender
- 2023 Land Rover Discovery Sport
Units affected: 2,950
Recall date: January 16, 2025
Details: A software issue on certain SUVs equipped with a 10" touch screen could cause the screen to remain blank when the vehicle is started. This may prevent the rear-view camera image from displaying, which doesn't meet Canadian safety regulations. A missing rear-view image could reduce the driver's ability to see behind the vehicle when reversing, increasing the risk of a crash.
What to do: Land Rover will notify owners by mail. Affected vehicles should be taken to a dealership for a touch screen software update.
Chevrolet
Models recalled in January 2025: 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV
Units affected: 5,599
Recall date: January 16, 2025
Details: A software issue in certain all-wheel drive models without the Super Cruise feature could cause the adaptive cruise control (ACC) system to malfunction. When activated, the system may fail to slow down or stop the vehicle when necessary, increasing the risk of a crash.
What to do: GM, the manufacturer, advises drivers to be prepared to manually apply the brakes when using adaptive cruise control. Affected owners will be notified by mail and should take their vehicle to a dealership to update the brake system control module software.
RAM
Models recalled in January 2025:
- 2016-2019 RAM 1500
- 2016-2020 RAM 2500
- 2016-2019 RAM 3500 (including certain 2016 chassis cab incomplete vehicles)

Recall date: January 16, 2025
Details: Some RAM trucks may have defective side curtain airbag inflators that could rupture unexpectedly, propelling metal fragments toward occupants. This poses a significant risk of injury to those in the vehicle.
What to do: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Canada will notify affected owners in writing. If your truck is impacted, you'll be advised to visit a dealership to have the defective side curtain airbags replaced.
Jeep
Models recalled in January 2025: 2017-2019 Jeep Cherokee
Units affected: 19,733
Recall date: January 16, 2025
Details: Certain Jeep Cherokees equipped with a two-speed power transfer unit (PTU) may have an improperly installed input shaft snap ring in the PTU. This could lead to PTU damage and failure, potentially causing a loss of power to the wheels or allowing the vehicle to move unexpectedly when parked without the parking brake engaged. Both issues increase the risk of injury and/or a crash.
What to do: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Canada will notify owners in writing. The specific corrective actions are still being developed. Stay tuned for further instructions from the manufacturer.
Kia
Models recalled in January 2025:
- 2024-2025 Kia Sorento (including hybrid and PHEV models)
- 2019-2022 Kia Niro
Units affected: 9,595
Recall dates: January 14, 2025 (Sorento) and January 7, 2025 (Niro EV)
Details: A software issue in the body domain control unit of some Sorento SUVs could cause the headlamps and tail lamps to turn off, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of a crash. This issue applies to hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models as well.
Meanwhile, water infiltration into the integrated electronic brake (IEB) system on some Niro EVs could lead to corrosion. If the IEB motor fails, it could cause reduced braking and longer stopping distances, increasing the risk of a crash.
What to do: Kia will notify owners of both vehicles by mail. Sorento owners will be instructed to visit a dealership for a software update to the body domain control unit. Niro EV owners will be advised to have their IEB system inspected so dealers can either apply silicone to the IEB bolt hole or replace the IEB as needed.
VinFast
Models recalled in January 2025: 2023-2025 VinFast VF 8
Units affected: 2,440
Recall date: January 8, 2025
Details: Certain VinFast VF 8 vehicles may have a defect in the driver's seat centre airbag, which could prevent it from deploying properly during specific types of collisions. This increases the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
What to do: VinFast will notify affected owners in writing. If your vehicle is part of this recall, you will be advised to visit a dealership to have the driver's seat centre airbag replaced.
Tesla
Models recalled in January 2025:
- 2024-2025 Tesla Model 3
- 2024-2025 Tesla Model S
- 2024-2025 Tesla Model X

Recall date: January 7, 2025
Details: A software issue in certain Tesla vehicles may cause the computer circuit board to short circuit, preventing the rear-view camera image from displaying as required by Canadian regulations. This could reduce the driver's ability to see behind the vehicle when reversing, increasing the risk of a crash.
What to do: Tesla has released an over-the-air software update to address the issue. Affected owners will be notified by email. If your vehicle experienced a short circuit or damage before receiving the software update (versions 2024.44.25.3, 2024.45.25.6, or later), Tesla will advise you to contact Tesla Service to replace the car computer.
