A 24-year-old man is in custody after a 22-year-old man was stabbed in an apartment in Montreal's Verdun borough Thursday night.

The incident occurred at around 12:10 a.m. Friday, when police were called to the residence on rue Evelyn near rue Caisse. SPVM spokesperson Véronique Dubuc said officers arrived to find the 22-year-old with an upper-body injury. He was brought to the hospital but medical teams, Dubuc continued, have confirmed there's no danger to his life.

Verdun's "Enchanted Alley" is back as part of the holiday installations on rue Wellington, Time Out's 2022 "coolest street in the world." The alley hosts different scenes every year.

This year, the photo backdrop takes the form of string lights guiding visitors to a pine-covered wall with an illuminated, holiday-themed "Pôle Well" logo and hanging bubble chairs.

Yes, ANOTHER Montreal holiday market. The Collectif Créatif Montréal, which organizes an annual market in the Angus neighbourhood, is bringing its holiday event to Verdun for the first time, promising 85 vendors selling local products, including eco-friendly clothing, accessories, art, candles and food.

The market will take place in the Verdun Auditorium, just a few blocks from De l'Église station on the green line, on December 17 and 18.

Verdun is hosting a cinéconference for Montrealers who are still reeling from the isolation and uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. OPTIMISTA will span four evenings filled with positivity that use documentary films as a thematic starting point to engage in discussions about courage, love, compassion and community. Each night will spotlight different arts-based projects and musical performances to inspire attendees and lift their spirits.

The first installment of OPTIMISTA on October 15 will focus on courage. Starting at 7 p.m. in the QUAI 5160–Maison de la Culture Verdun, the conference will screen award-winning documentary short The Black Cop about the first Black MET police officer to come out as openly gay. The film's protagonist, Gamal 'G' Turawa, will be present to give a talk on what it takes to make a difference, touching on resilience, race and equity.

Among the 33 entries on the list, curated by Time Out's editorial team from reader submissions to the Time Out Index survey, Wellington got top marks for its diverse bar and restaurant offerings and summertime pedestrianization, which transforms the busy commercial axis from an auto thoroughfare into a sprawling public patio.
