A massive winter slide park just opened in downtown Montreal — And it's totally free
There's a new way to make the most of Montreal's longest season, and it's right in the heart of downtown.
Kicking off this weekend, the city has turned part of the Quartier des Spectacles into an elaborate winter slide park that's open to the public. The best part? All six refrigerated hills are totally free to use.
Running until March 9, 2025, this year's edition of the Glissades Gamelin features three slopes designed for everyone from snow sport experts to first-timers and children to enjoy:
- The Mollo Slope: A gentle descent for relaxing rides
- The Yolo Slope: For thrill-seekers craving a bit of speed
- The Fomo Slope: Four sledding lanes perfect for races
Don't have your own gear? No problem. Sleds, snow scooters, and other pieces of equipment are available to borrow for free (helmets included, but supplies are limited).
Then, when it's time to warm up, head to the heated L'Après-Glisse chalet, where Café Tranquille has hot drinks and snacks to keep you cozy.
Located near the refrigerated rink at the Esplanade Tranquille, the slide park is open from:
- Wednesday to Friday: 4 p.m. - 9 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Extended hours during spring break
