The city is shutting down several Montreal wading pools indefinitely due to "difficulties in complying with the provincial regulation respecting water quality," confirmed Pascale Sévigny, communications officer for the City of Montreal.

Sévigny said the Institut national de santé public (INSPQ) recommended closing wading pools that don't have "water circulation and treatment systems," which allow for maintenance of their chlorine levels and for disinfection, due to the COVID-19 situation.

Premier François Legault is facing off with a growing number of opponents on the issue of giving homeless people a Quebec curfew exemption following the tragic death of Raphael André, a homeless man who passed away outside during curfew hours in the night of January 16.

After Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante publicly requested such an exemption, the premier shut down the idea during a press conference on January 19.
