Many were both saddened and shocked to find out that the black bear spotted in Montreal this past weekend had been euthanized. MTL Blog reached out to Quebec's Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks to find out why the decision was made.

Animal rescue group Sauvetage Animal Rescue was on the scene when the bear was caught on Sunday, May 23, and said they were told that the animal would be "released in an environment that will be more suitable for him!" Unfortunately, this isn't what ended up taking place.

According to Journal de Montréal, the black bear found in Montreal this past weekend has been euthanized. The bear was caught by SPVM officers and Sauvetage Animal Rescue on Sunday.

Originally, Sauvetage Animal Rescue reported that "the bear cub will be released in an environment that will be more suitable for him!"

Over the long weekend, a black bear was spotted in Montreal, just seemingly going about its day. When the bear was first found roaming on Sunday, May 23, the SPVM recommended that people in the Dorval area stay indoors.

"It was a citizen who noticed the presence of a bear, at which point police officers quickly went to the scene and advised the entire population in the area to stay inside their homes and avoid going outside," said Raphaël Bergeron, SPVM spokesperson told Narcity.
