Quebec Police Broke Up An Illegal Gathering On Saturday & Handed Out Over $55,000 In Fines
On Saturday, January 23, la Sûreté du Québec and le Service de police de la Ville de Mirabel allegedly broke up an illegal gathering of 36 people after receiving a call from a local citizen, according to Stéphane Tremblay, a spokesperson from la Sûreté.
Tremblay told MTL Blog that police received a at around 10 p.m. and the two departments headed straight to the house on rue Lafontaine in Mirabel.

Minimum total fines given at the illegal gathering
He went on to say that all 36 attendees were issued tickets, which are at a minimum $1,546, meaning there was at least $55,656 worth of fines issued.
These tickets were given for violating public health laws, according to the spokesperson.
La Sûreté has no information as to whether or not the host will receive an additional fine, although Tremblay said he does not believe that they will.
Tremblay said that it is unclear what the reasoning for the gathering was, but everyone in attendance was over the age of 18.
This is not the first time Quebec police have been called to break up large illegal gatherings since the start of the pandemic. One party back in October 2020 saw over $83,000 worth of fines.Â
Current red zone rules continue to restrict gatherings, especially under curfew.Â
