Canada's 2021 budget included investing $4.1 billion into financial assistance for college and university students. Namely, Canada announced it would waive interest on all federal student loans until March 31, 2023, and double student grants for two more years.

A new report from Royal LePage reveals that a "chronically low" housing supply in Montreal is contributing to an overall increase in prices during the first quarter of 2021 and will contribute to even more increases in the near future. 

"Residential demand has continued to grow in Greater Montreal and the number of single-family homes for sale on the market today is approximately half of the inventory we had before the pandemic," said Dominic St-Pierre, vice-president and general manager of Royal LePage Quebec, in the press release.

With Health Canada approving two more COVID-19 vaccines, Canadians have taken to the Internet seeking information — and Quebecers' popular search terms reveal a lot about how we're feeling when it comes to the vaccines.   

Semrusha data provider specializing in online behaviour, analyzed hundreds of search terms in Canada. It found that from the week of February 22 to the week of March 1, there was a 178% increase in searches for "best vaccine" in Quebec.

A new study conducted by the World Health Organization found that one in three women, roughly 736 million around the world, experience violence. And a team of McGill researchers, led by Professor Mathieu Maheu-Giroux, was part of the study.

The study titled, "Global, regional and national estimates for intimate partner violence against women and global and regional estimates for non-partner sexual violence against women" is the "Largest study ever conducted on the prevalence of violence against women," according to the university.

As COVID-19 vaccination ramps up in Quebec, watch out for scams. According to the provincial government and Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC), fraudsters are calling people up to offer vaccines for a fee — and nothing about it is legit.  

The CAFC told MTL Blog that between September 2020 — prior to the COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Canada — and January 2021, it received reports of fraud calls offering "vaccine kits," "vaccine sign-up links" and scam-artists posing as the World Health Organization.

Renters take heed: despite the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Quebec’s rental market remains hot.

A recent report from Rentals.ca and Bullpen Research & Consulting said average rent in the province increased by almost 15% annually from December 2019 to December 2020 to about $1,630 per month, while the average rent for all Canadian properties decreased 7.1% annually to $1,723 per month.
