Honestly, I know Montreal is awesome. But sometimes, it does a whole lot of good to just get away and go on an amazing vacation out of the city for a little bit.
And I personally really believe that a trip to Bali is pretty much the most perfect vacation to take. Not only is this Southeast Asian spot gorgeous, but it's also got a whole lot of things to do; plus, the beaches are actually breathtaking, TBH.

1. There is art and culture literally everywhere you look.

These locations are stunning and perfect for when you just want to escape reality and kick back! So, I suggest getting away from Montreal for a bit this summer 2017 and relaxing the right way, with sand, the ocean, and your loved ones!
I know I am, friends. And if travelling seems like something you'd love to do, but don't have the funds to follow up on, then I've got some great news. Travelling is not as expensive as you might think.
It depends a lot on where you're going. Although there are tons of spots that aren't super expensive to go to, here are just a few of the cheapest travel destinations you could check out in 2017.
If beautiful views and historical are your thing (and they totally are, don't even lie), then you'll fall in love with Kuala Lumpur. Here, you can check out the National Museum, the KL Tower, and the Bird Park, and then grab some curry at a local curry house.
Historical sites, beautiful beaches, urban centres, caves, castles, and much more are waiting for you to explore them in this Albainain city. Helpful hint: when visiting Vlore, make sure you dine on some seafood, which is super fresh and flavourful.
With (lots of) temples, museums, public gardens, waterfalls, palaces, and more, this Northern Thailand spot is perfect for those of us who want to learn a little bit and admire nature while on vacation.
Not only is Kathmandu full of gorgeous sights, but it's also full of super fun things to do. You can flightsee a mountain, go hiking through the Kathmandu Valley, attend a festivals, and a whole lot more.
Adana is rich with history, and is now full of super intreresting and awesome spots to go and visit. Or, if history's not your thing, you can always check out the Varda Bridge, where a scene from Skyfall was filmed.
Phnom Penh is home to The Royal Palace, Hill Temple, The National Museum Of Cambodia, and other super interesting spots. Plus, it's a super gorgeous place to be in, TBH.
Indonesia is beautiful, and Bali does not disappoint. Peaceful spots, beautiful beaches, and an overall, totally legit feeling of surrealism await you at this gorgeous destination.
The Philippines is one seriously beautiful country, and Bacolod is home to tons of super interesting places to go. There are historical and religious spots, museums, cold water springs, nature parks, and tons of other awesome ways to enjoy your stay.
Mysore is honestly such an awesome city. It's situated in Karnataka, in Southern India, and there are tons of beautiful things to see - like the Karanji Lake, for example. Plus, it's home of the famous Mysore Pak dish, a sweet Indian dessert.
Public markets, museums, promenades and beautiful sights make Odessa one spot you absolutely have to go visit if you're craving some culture in your life.
Honestly, what's not to love about Morocco? The whole country is incredibly beautiful, and Tangier is an amazing mix of culutre, history, beauty, good food, and good vibes, making it one seriously awesome travel destination.
Podgorica, located in Montenegro, is seriously gorgeous. You can go check out Podgorica's Old Town or the Millennium Bridge, among tons of other worthwhile sights to check out.
This giant European city is more than worth a visit at least once in your life. There's so much to do and see in Budapest, I don't even know where to begin; but just make sure to check out the beautiful Opera House, and the National Gallery art museum.
Take a ride on a vespa, check out a downtown waterslide, check out one of many historical sights, and get yourself some delicious Banh Mi in this beautiful, historically rich Vietnamese city.
Katowice is pretty much every theatre lover's dream. There are tons of shows, films, and concerts, and theatre-related events, going on in Katowice at pretty much all times; plus tons of theatres and opera houses to check out, too.
If you love nature, you're going to love this Brazilian city. Although it's a pretty huge and urban spot, Belo Horizonte still has some gorgeous places to absorb all those awesome nature vibes, like the Pampulha lake.
If you're in the same boat as me, graduation is fast-approaching and, although you're thrilled to be completing school forever, you're also a little freaked out about what you'll be doing after you graduate. It's pretty scary to think about your future, especially since all you've been doing for your entire life is school.
But your possibilities are endless. If you're someone who wants to jump right into the workforce and start grinding right away, do it! If you're someone who isn't quite finished with school yet and wants to continue with a graduate program or a shorter college program, do it! But if wanderlust has been calling your name and you just can't wait to get out there and explore all the amazing, endless beauties of the world, then you've got to go travelling.
I've been dreaming about travelling after graduation for as long as I can remember and I have quite the list of dream destinations built up already. Of course, you won't be able to hit all of these places in the same trip. You'll have to choose between the three main post-grad trips: Southeast Asia, South America or Europe. Once you decide, get ready for the time of your life!
Thailand is my number one dream destination right now for when I graduate. My absolute favourite kind of food is Thai food and I've been dreaming about travelling there and getting to try some actually authentic Thai food. Thailand is amazing for many other reasons other than the food though. They have an abundance of tropical islands to explore, hop from one to another until you discover them all!
If you'd like to save money while you're here, skip the islands in Southern Thailand, because this might be the most expensive area to visit, and head up to Northern Thailand instead. Here you'll find colourful temples and tons of culture!
Amsterdam is the definition of a backpacker's European paradise. Amsterdam is full of amazing sights to see and activities to enjoy, but it also turns into a crazy party city every night. You can't miss some of the best sights that Amsterdam is known for such as visiting the Anne Frank House, the Van Gogh Museum, and biking along their famous canal in the middle of the city. At night, take a walk over to the Red Light District and enjoy some of the crazy clubs they have there. I can't forget to mention that 'soft' drugs are legal there, such as marijuana and magic mushrooms so get ready for a party on this trip.
Bali is the perfect travel destination for graduates who want to get out of their comfort zones and discover something new about themselves. It's a magical place filled with beauty, nature, and relaxation that you won't be able to find anywhere else. Bali is definitely on my list for after I graduate. You can't miss taking a morning yoga class, getting a cheap massage on the beach, or watching the sunset every night. Take some time to explore the breathtaking islands off the coast of Bali as well!
Santorini is part of the Cyclades islands of Greece located right on the deep blue Aegean Sea. This city is made up of clean, white buildings and churches with deep blue roofs, all contrasting the bright blues of the water below. Explore the cultural castles and monasteries that are scattered throughout the towns and relax on the pebbly beaches! Who doesn't love Greek food, also? Here you can get the most authentic and delicious Greek food you'll ever find anywhere!
Italy is one of the tougher European cities to stick to a budget for a few different reasons. One is that you'll want to eat basically everything you see. It is the birthplace of Nutella, pizza, pasta, gelato and basically everything good in the world so it's going to be tough for you to hold back on having 6 meals a day here. Hostels here are also pretty expensive, they can range anywhere from 25-60 euros a night, which for Canadians can add up to quite a lot. Don't let this deter you from coming here though, Italy is one of the most amazing places you'll ever visit.
My favourite places when I travelled here were Cinque Terre, Tuscany, Florence, Venice and Rome. Even though Rome is very touristy if you're coming to Italy you can't miss the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Trevvi Fountain, and so much more!
South America is one of the cheapest destinations for tourists, especially recently graduated backpackers. If you're up for staying in hostels, then Peru will be a super cheap trip for you. The one thing you absolutely must do while you're in Peru is hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. This hike is challenging and will take you a few days but it's totally worth it. You should also visit the cheap markets in Cusco, visit the Amazon Rainforest, and explore the historical cities!
Portugal is one of the most affordable travel destinations in Europe. The price of accommodation here isn't as expensive as most places, you can find hostels for around 10-15 euros easily. Portugal is also one of the most beautiful places to visit, with the breathtaking beaches on the Azores Islands, the religious monuments in Braga, and the historic buildings of Evora. You can also do some crazy partying in Lagos, which is known for their bars, clubs and beautiful beaches!
Another classic South American destination is Bolivia, and it's just as cheap as all the others. You won't be disappointed if you choose to travel here because there's so much to see and you're guaranteed to meet a bunch of new people doing the same thing as you are! Stay in the capital city of La Paz and take the teleferico to the top of Mount Illimani and explore the abundant markets. The main excursion you should make on this trip is to the Uyuni Salt Flats, which is Bolivia's most famous destination. Take the classic, creative pictures here, relax in some hot springs, and hike up volcanoes!
Laos is another dream destination for those hoping to travel to Southeast Asia once they graduate. The cities here are filled to the brim with cool things to see and do. Head over to Luang Prabang to swim in the famous Kuang Si Falls, just make sure you don't visit during rainy season because the colour of the water won't be as bright blue as usual! Next head over to Vang Vieng for a backpacker's favourite hub and find some great nightlife, caves and rivers to explore. Don't miss Vientane for the historical temples and rivers!
Like most European cities, Budapest can get expensive but the trick is to plan your travels right. Stay in a hostel, which you can find for the affordable price of around $10/night and the food here is very cheap, with lots of delicious options on the streets. You must visit Hungary's largest outdoor thermal bath, the Széchenyi Thermal Bath, explore Buda Castle, and walk across the famous Chain Bridge!
Clearly the most expensive destination on this list, but the Fiji islands are something that shouldn't be missed in your lifetime. So now that you're graduated why not treat yourself to this beautiful trip? Spend your days lounging on the whitest, smoothest beaches you'll find in the entire world, take a morning dip in the crystal clear water, and spend your evenings watching the most breathtaking sunset you'll ever see!
Morocco is one of the most amazing places to visit, you won't disappointed if you come here. Visit the blue city of Chefchaouen, wander through the small alley-like streets and enjoy the bright blues, light blues, and deep blues of the city walls surrounding you. You must visit the capital, Marrakesh for some unreal markets filled with jewelry, textiles, and pottery! Head out to the dessert and ride a camel, sleep under the stars and go sand boarding!
This is the classic spot for everyone who wants to travel. If you're going to Europe you just have to go to Paris. It is the city of love after all! Since it's such a popular destination it can get pretty expensive here but, the same with Italy, it's not impossible to set a budget and stick to it. You must see the Eiffel Tower (obviously), visit the Arc de Triomphe, The Louvre, and Notre Dame de Paris. Enjoy the most amazing coffee, croissants and baguettes you'll have in the world! This is one trip you'll never forget.
Cambodia is such an amazing destination that you definitely can't miss on your Southeast Asian trip. The most popular place to visit here is Siem Reap, where you can find the historic and beautiful Angkor Wat ruins, abundant markets and so many temples it'll make you dizzy! (In a good way, of course) There's also a lot of magical beaches here as well, travel to Koh Rong Island for a relaxing few days on some white sandy beaches.
It's that time of year again, summer's officially over. Most of us may be in denial of this but it's actually a reality. Our work has started to get busy and stressful, school has begun and midterms are upon us, and our life responsibilities are no longer avoidable. As depressing as that all sounds it doesn't mean we have to let this time of year get us down.
The best way to keep your mind off of all the stress building up in our lives is to plan our next vacation! Christmas is quite a distance away, but before we know it, it's going to be here and why not start planning your beach getaway now? Here's a list of the cheapest beach destination that you should definitely consider for your upcoming X-Mas holidays!
Greece is a dream destination for anyone wishing to hop on a plane and indulge in a European getaway. Although, we are usually jolted out of this dream violently by the reality of the cost. Europe is known for being one of the most cultural and fulfilling experiences anyone can have in their lifetime, but it is also known for how expensive it can get. Lucky for us, there are certain places we can travel to which won't brake our bank and one of them is Corfu, Greece!
There's so many amazing things to do on this island, such as snorkelling in the bright shimmering waters, lounging on the soft sandy beaches, snorkelling and scuba diving in the underwater caves, and enjoying the nightlife and cultural monuments in town! This is one trip you'll definitely be glad you took.
Puerto Rico is one of the best Caribbean islands and is a very popular destination among tourists. This majestic island provides a landscape of towering green mountains, white sandy beaches, and turquoise blue water. You must visit the capital, San Juan, while you're here to experience the exciting nightlife, casinos, and contrast all that with the historical city of Old San Juan with it's colourful colonial buildings and massive fortresses! You'll get the best of both worlds on this trip, a relaxing beach trip with the best partying and shopping as well as a cultural and educational experience.
Mexico is the epitome of a cheap beach vacation. It is well-known for it's perfect beaches, magical sunsets and friendly locals making this the best place for tourists looking for a relaxing getaway. Since it is a well-known destination, it can get quite busy during their peak season but it's still one of the best beach destination you can choose. I travelled here for a family vacation a couple of years ago and it was so great! The beaches were so soft and the weather was perfect, even though some days it was calling for rain it would blow over in less than an hour.
The main strip is very built up as well, with a full on shopping mall and many great restaurants to choose from. There's so many excursions to choose from such as snorkelling tours, zip lining and so much more!
Thailand is one of my ultimate dream destinations. From the authentic thai food to the temples and culture, to the abundant beaches, there's really nothing you can't enjoy here. The island of Phuket, Thailand is one that you should definitely consider for your next trip. It has a rainforest ecosystem, making the forests lush and green and filled with exotic and rare animals to see on your morning hike. Visit Phuket City for scuba diving and snorkelling, the amazing Phatong Beach, and stay in some of the best oceanside resorts while you're here!
Jamaica is a well-known Caribbean island and is loved by tourists around the world for many reasons. The locals here are some of the friendliest care-free spirits in the world, the beaches are unreal, the fresh fruits and cuisines are so amazing, and the weather is always amazing. Jamaica has a mountainous landscape, providing lush rainforests to hike through and secret waterfalls to discover. You can choose from many towns to stay at such as the most well-known, Montego Bay, or another amazing option is Negril! Both have breathtaking beaches, cliff jumping, and snorkelling excursions to enjoy!
Albania is one of the cheapest but also underrated European destinations right now. It lays right on the Mediterranean coast and offers timeless culture and abundant nature. One of the main reasons to visit Albania is because it is a very safe destination for tourists as well as being cheap. You will rarely experience an unsafe situation, in fact Albanians are very friendly and helpful people. The beaches here are some of the best you can find in Europe, which is surprising why it hasn't blown up as a popular spot yet. Enjoy lounging on the unique, stone beaches under their grass umbrellas or explore the history scattered throughout the town!
Ambergris Caye is the largest island that Belize has to offer. It's a classic Caribbean style island, offering magical beaches, bright turquoise water, and abundant marine life. It is the perfect place to try out snorkelling or scuba diving because you're pretty much guaranteed to see some colourful fish and possibly a few sea turtles too! You must go see The Great Blue Hole, which is located off the coast of Belize and is basically a giant sinkhole in the water. It appears much darker blue than the surrounding light turquoise water. You can actually go swimming in it too!
Another cheap beach destination in Thailand, Koh Phangan has so much to offer it's visitors. You must visit Thong Sala Night Market, which is mostly food and mouthwatering seafood cuisines, watch the beautiful sunset at Amsterdam Bar, enjoy a herbal sauna at Baan Tai, lounge your day away on Mae Haat Beach and party your night away at a full or half moon party! You can also enjoy many other beautiful beaches on the island, or experience something new by signing up for a cooking class where you can learn to cook some authentic Thai food recipes!
Bali, Indonesia is the number 1 destination for relaxing and de-stressing. It is known for it's peaceful environment and luxury relaxation for way cheaper than you can ever find here. Treat yourself to one of their numerous spas, enjoy a massage on the beach, or find your passion for mediation and yoga! Bali is the perfect destination to find peace and relaxation within yourself, just take a tip from Julia Roberts on this one. This trip also won't be breaking the bank at all because Indonesia is crazy cheap right now, especially for Canadians!
Goa is a beautiful part of India, one that shouldn't be overlooked when considering a magical beach vacation. The coastline of the stunning state of Goa stretches along the Arabian Sea. Before the 1960s, Goa was a Portuguese colony and it's towns show the history of this time in their abundant colonial buildings and churches. They are known for their soft sandy beaches and relaxing environments. Enjoy various water sports such as snorkelling, parasailing and exploring the forests for hidden waterfalls while you're here!
Vietnam is one of the cheapest travel destinations right now, but that doesn't mean it has less to offer than others, in fact it has a whole lot more. Vietnam is located in Southeast Asia, very close to other amazing Southeast Asian countries such as Cambodia, Thailand and Laos. Vietnam is known for it's magical beaches, rivers, and iconic temples. Nha Trang has so much to offer tourists since it is known as a popular resort town. Enjoy lounging on the clean and relaxing beaches, surrounded by palm trees and bright blue water, take day trips out to the offshore islands, and enjoy water sports like scuba diving and snorkelling!
Bocas del Toro is the type of beach vacation you should take if you're ready for a party. The main town called Bocastown is known for it's wild nightlife, amazing beach for lounging during the day, and fun water sports such as snorkelling and scuba diving! Take a day trip out to Bastimentos Island and try some crazy zip lining, cave exploring and more amazing beaches. There's an unlimited amount of amazing things to do on this beach vacation you won't ever be bored.
Another amazing beach location in Greece, Kos Island is a magical place that everyone should experience once in their lives. Whether you're looking for a relaxing, lazy beach vacation, or you're hoping to experience adventure and thrilling activities, Kos has something for everyone. Kos is the birthplace of Hippocrates, the father of western medicine, and is full of culture and history. Hike up the live, smoking Nissyros volcano, bike around the island and enjoy the breathtaking views, relax on the white sandy beaches, or enjoy horseback riding along the beach at sunset!
If you already miss summer 2016, then it's time to get planning for summer 2017! This might be the most expensive island on this list but that's because it's so secluded and almost completely untouched. Enjoy treks through the jungle, island hopping, sea kayaking or a beach massage!
There are no hotels on this island, the Similan National Park has island bungalows for visitors to stay in that are extremely affordable. This movie showed the beauty and relaxation that comes with a visit to the tropical, beachy destination of Bali and from then on it's blown up. However, most tourists don't know how amazing the surrounding islands are though. Most of them are barely inhabited and are so secluded, you can avoid the bustling tourism that is the main island of Bali. It's so easy to get to most of these islands by boat and not at all expensive!
Once you see this list, you'll be booking your tickets to Bali right away!

Canadians are known to be polite. We're so polite we'll even take time off from our vacation to save a few lives if need be. Samuel Rousseau-Mascolo who lives and works in Bromont, was vacationing in Indonesia when he saw 4 people who appeared to be drowning.
He called out to another man and they both ran into the water with their surf boards and started paddling towards the weakened swimmers who were being carried away by the current.
They each grabbed 2 swimmers and helped them cling to the surfboards. Even though they weren't very far from the shore (about 12 meters), it took over 10 minutes to paddle back to the beach.Luckily for the swimmers, the 20 year old Quebec man was a life guard who works a the Ski Bromont's Aquatic Park.
He kind of looks like Keanu Reeves in the picture doesn't he?
