This farm near Montreal sells fresh eggs for just 29 cents each — Here's how to get them
With grocery prices continuing to rise, even everyday items like eggs have become more expensive. According to Statistics Canada, the average retail price for a dozen eggs in Canada was $4.42 in June 2024, and it went up to $4.85 by November.
But if you're willing to venture just outside Montreal, you can grab fresh, farm-raised eggs at Pondoir HDJJ in Repentigny for a great price. The farm, run by the Guillemette-Claude family, sells its eggs for only $3.50 per dozen, but the real bargain is buying in bulk — $8.75 for 30 eggs, which works out to just 29 cents each. That's a steal compared to what you'd pay in stores.
Plus, they often run promotions when their chickens are a little more productive.
As part of the Fédération des producteurs d'œufs du Québec, the Guillemette-Claude clan has been producing fresh, high-quality eggs since 2009. Starting with just 6,600 hens, they now manage 33,000 laying hens and pride themselves on providing affordable, nutritious eggs directly to consumers.
Montreal-based Instagrammer Nineb Mikhail recently featured the farm in a viral video. He intentionally kept the name of the spot under wraps, trying to keep it a bit lowkey, but despite his efforts, he couldn't help but get his followers curious about the local hack.
Mikhail described the process of picking up his order as "so easy" and highlighted an interesting detail: "These eggs are fresh and never refrigerated, so you can keep them on your counter for almost two weeks."
With that in mind, it might be wise to store them in the fridge (just to be on the safe side).
How to get your eggs
- Pick-up hours are from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
- The farm is closed on Wednesdays and Sundays.
- Reservations are required. You can reserve online through their order form or by calling/texting.
- Cash or Interac e-Transfer only.
To reserve online, simply fill out the order form with your name, phone number and preferred pick-up date. Be sure to check for any special closures, as they are occasionally closed on certain dates.
