If one thing is for sure, it's that Montrealers adore parks. And one, in particular, gets a whole lot of love: Mount Royal.

Such love for this park led many locals to flock there on the statutory holiday of Monday, October 12.

City officials took notice of the high volume of people frequenting the park that day and made the decision to temporarily close its parking lot because of such.

With regions of Quebec in partial lockdown, it's shaping up to be an uneventful October. It's understandable that containing the spread of COVID-19 is a priority over Halloween, but it's still sad to watch Montreal's spooky season pass us by without proper recognition. 

Luckily, Montreal is 378 years old (founded in 1642) meaning it has a plethora of old churches, cemeteries, gothic architecture and creepy hotels.

For the first time in a century, an old subterranean secret in Montreal is seeing daylight. The REM construction in downtown has finally reached the old Mount Royal tunnel, a 100-year-old passage that was once intended to be used as a metro line until former mayor Jean Drapeau had other plans. 

It has since been used for commuter trains.

One of the few things we can still actually enjoy while the weather is chilly is a hike up Mount Royal. For a lot of Montrealers, there's nothing like exploring our own backyard and seeing the fall colours completely transform the mountain. As an added bonus, this year's new fall programming on Mount Royal includes a taco picnic at Beaver Lake.

A "tempting" variety of picnic boxes awaits all autumn hikers at the Beaver Lake Pavilion, where you can snack on scrumptious pulled pork tacos, vegan sandwiches and shrimp rolls. It's pretty much the perfect complement to a bottle of wine or some hot cider.
