Staff at a Montreal-area zoo have something to crow about. A raven suspected to have been stolen from the Montreal Ecomuseum Zoo in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue last week — prompting its director to plead for his return — has been found safe.
Kola, a raven with health problems, was found by police on Saturday in a sealed plastic bin near l’Anse-à-l'Orme, said David Rodrigue, executive director of the Ecomuseum, in a statement posted to Facebook.

It was returned to the Ecomuseum, though it took staff a few days to confirm they had the right bird.
“Even though he was no longer wearing his ID band, a physical examination as well as blood and behavioral tests allowed our team to confirm that it was Kola,” said Rodrigue.
“We are relieved to see that he appears to be in good physical shape and despite the tremendous stress he has been through, he is doing well.”
He will remain under medical supervision for the next 40 days to make sure he’s okay.
The bird was reported missing after a suspected break-in on November 26.
Fearing Kola might have been taken by an individual intent on “freeing” him, Rodrigue took to Facebook and stated the potential birdnapper was committing an unkindness.
Kola arrived at the Ecomuseum from a rehabilitation centre about two years ago having been rescued and nursed back to health after suffering injuries that left him unable to survive in the wild.
“We are infinitely grateful that Kola is back among us,” said Rodrigue. “Regardless of the perpetrator of this crime, he/she will have had the conscience to ensure that Kola gets the care he needs for his survival. For that, we thank you.”
