Much like the Quebec Liberals and the CAQ, Québec Solidaire recently released its own 21-point plan to protect and promote the French language titled the "Orange Book," which includes a plan to prohibit "the requirement of English in hiring, unless it is demonstrated that this knowledge is indispensable for the job sought."

This "Orange Book," presented by Quebéc Solidaire MNA Ruba Ghazal, features "21 ambitious proposals to strengthen the place of French in the workplace and in education, but also to facilitate the francization and inclusion of newcomers to Quebec society."

At a National Assembly meeting on Wednesday afternoon, Quebec Solidaire representative Manon Massé asked Premier François Legault if he knows how much the median Montreal rent of an apartment is per month.

The premier thought that "it depends on the size of the accommodation, but I would say it can, maybe, start at $500 or $600 a month and pretty quickly go up to $1000 a month."

Québec solidaire MNA Andrés Fontecilla introduced a private members' bill in the National Assembly of Québec on February 10 that would freeze residential rent increases in the province for one year — from June 2021 to May 2022. 

However, it still needs to get through more stages in order to pass, including a public hearing, detailed consideration by a committee and a vote. Québec solidaire only holds 10 out of 125 seats in the provincial government, which makes it harder for them to pass bills.

Quebec politics are never simple. Navigating the shark-infested waters of language politics, sovereignty, and economic crises would unnerve even the most experienced politician. No one would call the Québec Solidaire inexperienced after nearly 15 years of campaigning but for a party that's seemingly in touch with the concerns of young people, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, Manon Massé, and the entire Québec Solidaire crew still have tons of uncharted waters to navigate. 

While Québec Solidaire's platform is rather straight-forward and has clear goals, the party has a hard time convincing the population.
