The Sûrété du Québec (SQ) confirmed that a murder-suicide took place in Contrecoeur after two bodies were discovered on June 9 — marking the 12th femicide in Quebec in 2021.

The bodies were found around 11 a.m. on Wednesday in a single-family home, SQ spokesperson Valérie Beauchamp told MTL Blog. They were reportedly identified as Lisette Corbeil, 56, and David Joly, 49, but police could not confirm the relationship between them.

In a video published to Twitter on January 15, Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante urged the Quebec government to place a cap on high commission fees charged to restaurants using third-party delivery apps.

November 25 marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The occasion, organized by the United Nations, aims to raise awareness of the "pervasive problem" of gender-based violence. Citing "alarming" statistics, Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante added her voice to the cause, condemning all forms of violence against women and girls.

On Wednesday, the City of Montreal unveiled its "Strategy of Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples 2020-2025."

Joined by Indigenous leaders, Mayor Valérie Plante was enthusiastic about the new policy and said that "Canadian cities must play a leading role in reconciliation with Indigenous peoples since half of the Indigenous people live in urban areas in Canada [...] Montreal intends to lead the way and show itself to be an ally of Indigenous people."

In a press conference on October 22, Mayor Valérie Plante announced that Montreal retail stores, including small businesses, would be able to extend their hours for the holiday season.

Starting on November 14, the city's retailers will be able to remain open until 10 p.m. on weekdays.
