The CEGEP Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu in Montérégie went into lockdown due to a police operation on campus Friday.

In a 10 a.m. statement, school administrators said police had erected a perimeter and were denying entry to visitors.

"At the request of the police, students and staff members must lock themselves in a closed room and turn off the lights," the statement reads.

At around noon, police began what the school has called a "controlled evacuation" of the building.

It appeared that the evacuation had ended by around 4 p.m. Students and staff who wished to retrieve personal items left behind were asked to go to a locker room near Alphonse-Desjardins Stadium Friday night. Otherwise, the school said it would be open between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. on November 12 and 13 via doors 15, 56 and 57.
