A four-year-old girl who went missing in Shannon, Quebec, in the Capitale-Nationale region, was found dead after midnight near her home.

According to police updates on Twitter, she was first reported missing at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 9.

Several outlets have reported that her body was found in a pool.

Around 12:45 a.m. the girl was found dead not far from her residence.

News of her disappearance spread widely on social media.

Premier François Legault implored residents to "please keep your eyes open! We need to find that little girl as quickly as possible."
