The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) has announced that it has dismantled what it called a "vast network" of love scams in Quebec.

According to a statement, police planned to arrest 12 people in Montreal, Outaouais, and Quebec City on Tuesday.

The SQ says the alleged scammers targeted "vulnerable, mostly elderly" people "through dating sites and social networks" over several years, raising $2.3 million.

Police suspect there may be other victims and ask "anyone who has been a victim of this fraud is invited to contact their local police station."
