According to a statement, police planned to arrest 12 people in Montreal, Outaouais, and Quebec City on Tuesday.

The SQ says the alleged scammers targeted "vulnerable, mostly elderly" people "through dating sites and social networks" over several years, raising $2.3 million.

Police suspect there may be other victims and ask "anyone who has been a victim of this fraud is invited to contact their local police station."
