Canada is no longer the safest country in the world to travel to, according to a new ranking of the world's safest destinations for 2025.

After topping the list last year, Canada was ranked the third-safest country to travel to in 2025 in a new global safety report from Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection. This year, Iceland took the top spot, followed by Australia.

Numbeo, a Serbian-based crowd-sourced online database that compiles information on perceived consumer prices, real estate prices, and metrics related to the quality of life, released its annual ranking and Canada placed 25th overall.

Canada is known for being a friendly and welcoming country, and it turns out we've got the numbers to back it up. A recent study measuring the world's friendliest cities for non-residents dropped, and Montreal and Toronto managed to not only secure a spot on the list, but also rank in the top 10.

Preply, a language learning app and e-learning platform, is behind the ranking of 53 cities. The learning language service analyzed six metrics to compile the list: visitor return rates, safety ratings, LGBTQ+ equality, ease of communicating through a common language, community respect and overall happiness.

March 20 is the International Day of Happiness, and things are pretty good in Canada. Though they could be better. The latest World Happiness Report (WHR) ranked Canada the 13th happiest country in the world. The U.S. trails by two spots in 15th place.

The annual report is based on data from the Gallup World Poll. Poll respondents are asked to rate their life on a scale from one to 10, 10 representing their idea of the "best possible life." Report authors say they collect about 1,000 such "life evaluations" from each country, weigh them to create national averages, and then rank countries based on three-year averages of those averages.
