Despite a great deal of speculation ahead of Premier François Legault's Wednesday evening press conference, there will be no changes to gathering limits over the holidays. However, the Quebec government is asking that you only have one Christmas celebration this year — and even postpone celebrating if it's possible.

"Saturday we are letting people who absolutely want to meet and gather in a group of 10 to do so," said Premier Legault.

After a week filled with record-high COVID-19 case numbers and new health measures, Premier François Legault took to Facebook on Saturday to ask Quebecers for a two- to three-week "Christmas truce."

"If I had one wish this morning, it would be that we all call a Christmas truce," Legault said in his Facebook post. "Let's call a truce and focus on what we have to do in the next few weeks. [...] It would be a nice collective Christmas present to ourselves."

The countdown to Christmas has begun! While Quebec has yet to announce which COVID-19 health measures will be in place over the holidays, Premier François Legault indicated that he's cautiously "confident" certain rules will be relaxed — specifically when it comes to the number of guests you'll be allowed to have at your house.

"The question I've heard the most in the last few weeks: What's coming for the holidays? [...] Given the increase in cases, I understand we do not want to do what we did last year and be forced to backtrack, so we will give ourselves a little more time to see how the situation goes," Premier Legault said at a press conference on November 23. "We are confident that we should be able to increase the number of people in homes."
